The Griphooks Story
The Griphook was incepted on December 24th, 1982. As a paper carrier during the BLIZZARD of '82. There was no chance of getting my route done on bike, so I put all the papers into garbage bags and hauled them across the waist deep snow. It was then I thought. "I wish I had a handle, with a hook on it, so I could just drag the bag over the snow!"  25 years it took to manifest itself!

After Graduating from High School in 1986,  my first job was doing Pizza Delivery.

In 1988 I founded Mercury Messenger Service. I worked as a courier full time until January of 1991. That's when I started Jammin' Out!! Mobile DJ. My first gig was a couples 50th Wedding Anniversary. (They had an ice cream social!)

In 1994 I took my first EMS course. I couldn't get enough. I soon took a CNA class then re-upped on my EMT basic again in 1996- Trinidad State Junior College.

1997 Then it was off to become a Medical Assistant-

In 2000 I began working as an instructor at the collegiate level. While teaching MA, I saw value in the CPR Instructor card. I QUIT teaching college courses and started CHALLENGER CPR.com in September of 2000.

In January of 2001, My father had a one car roll over accident. His rehab was long, and exhausting. I saw his weakend state, but he was still going 100%. Over 3 years of rehab, my father was really getting around, but not like he was used to. If he won't slow down, let me help him along!

November of 2004, My friend Jon Urland laughed as I took a hand crank drill and bored a hole into a bench... "I got myself an idea."

December of 2004 I invented the 1st prototype of the Griphook to help dad get along.. I never thought it would have turned into THIS!!!

March of 2005 I sold the first prototype for the GRIPHOOK in an abandoned parking lot off of 1-25 and Arapahoe Rd. A young man carrying 10 or so grocery bags, walking home from shopping. I remember the size of his smile when he reached for his wallet, I knew I was onto something special.

In April of 2005 I flew out to Atlanta, GA in hopes of getting onto an inventors show. They liked the Griphook and moved me into the next level. I didn't like the contract, so I DECLINED a National TV Audience.  I decided to put the Griphook project on the back burner for a while.

March 2007 The Rocky Mountain Horse Expo! Thank You Brian! It was there I found you can move a BALE!!- 1st Prototype of a Buckethook debut!

July 2007 Greeley Independence Stampede, Chainhook is invented. (Rough crowds in Greeley!)

I shook hands with the store managers, delivered samples, explained my brand new device! Lamar, Elizabeth, La Junta, Falcon (Colo Springs) Pueblo, Alamosa, Cortez, and my family's hometown of TRINIDAD COLORADO!!

Reservoir Dogs 2 Critique word for word. Good, bad & ??

Dear Authors,

If you are using Final Draft, when rewriting screenplays it is always a good idea to use Final Draft's "REVISION MODE" option. This will mark your changes with an asterisk as well as show them in color and will allow us, or your agents, to find revisions quickly and better evaluate how they work.

To use "REVISION MODE" just click the "Production Tab" and then on "Revision Mode" to turn this feature on. You can also click on "Revisions" to choose the color and designate which Revision you are writing in, First, Second, so on. When you or someone else reads your script, they can then separately see and assess the changes you've made in each Revision, again making it easier to evaluate the changes.

Screenplays Only - This information is to be provided by the author.

Screenplay Transmittal Form:

TITLE: Reservoir Dogs 2

AUTHOR: Rich Passarelli

LOCATION(s): Los Angeles

PERIOD: Early 90's to Present time

GENRE: Pulp Fiction

The Current Logline of the Work (approximately 3 sentences):

Note: a proper logline and synopsis are critical to presenting your work. If you have it already, please fill it in. If you don’t, your editor will discuss it with you.

20 years have passed. Mr. Blonde, Mr. Brown, Mr. Pink and Mr. White, have all done their time for the diamond heist in the early 90's. Dino Cabot was left in charge of the Cabot family after the death of his father Joe, and his brother "Nice Guy" Eddie.

Dino Cabot has taken the "family" company into legitimacy, but he still has his hands tied up in some of his fathers business. Dino has been brewing up a job, he needs trusted men, a breed dwindling in numbers. Dino calls to a group of "Old School" gangsters, men his father trusted... This time the score is from Mexico, and it's big, real big! Dino and his Rouges heist 7 Megga Mart Trucks full of cash and prizes!

Meanwhile...The son of the officer killed in the warehouse has joined the LAPD, and already made his way to Detective. RJ Nash is a steady headed guy with a wicked mean streak, and a massive chip on his shoulder. Marvin Nash's widow, Wanda Nash has known for 20 years the diamonds were never found, her goal is to find them. RJ's goal is revenge.

The Current Synopsis of the Work (approximately 1-2 pages):

It's been 20 years since the botched diamond heist. All the men have done their time and have been drafted by Dino Cabot for a huge job. The score will be huge, 7 Semi's full of Primo. The job will be a con game with a hitch. All the men need to do is detain 7 drivers at Cottonwood Hollow VA Hospital until the product can be switched out. The drivers will be sent on their way to make the delivery, with an unwelcome addition of C4 explosives attached the the trailers. A non violent, easy way to make a score.

Dino cabot took control of Cabot Inc. when his father was shot dead at the warehouse. Dino took Cabot Inc. into a more legitimate company. He has a plan for a big score, an ode to Joe Cabot. Cottonwood Hollow VA Hospital had been shut down due to Federal Budget cuts. He was able to gain control of the Hospital and it's attached warehouse. Cottonwood Hollow, much like many other hospitals have a Jail in the basement for segregation of prisoners who need medical attention and the general public. Dino plans to hijack the trucks, lock up the drivers until the stash has been removed. Barren desert for miles around, it's the perfect place to pull off the deed.

Dino's life hasn't been without heartache. His childhood sweetheart and his young son were killed in a car accident a few years before his father and brother were shot. Dino is now the last living Cabot, left to carry on the family name. When he sees Heather Marie Thompson, much of that changed. Heather was Freddy Newendyke's girlfriend for 7 years, she was pregnant with his child when Freddy was shot.

Dino and Heather found instant chemistry after the trials and have together ever since. Dino Cabot is the only father Brandon Newendyke has ever known.

Wanda Nash, The widow of Marvin Nash has raised her kids RJ and Jennifer. Jennifer has "social issues" and works as a waitress in Las Vegas, while RJ became an officer with the LAPD.

RJ Nash has a big chip on his shoulder and has a wicked meanstreak when provoked. He only inflicts damage on those who truly deserve it. RJ would love nothing more than to live life by the letter of the law, but he knows sometimes the only true justice is the justice you take for yourself.

RJ Nash has a new trainee, William Edward Kennedy.

Kennedy is a good looking, gung ho, "catch the bad guys" kind of guy. Kennedy has a major plot twist involving his character at the end of the story. He got promoted to detective after he took down the infamous Jojo Baller, with a little help from CPR Guy. His instincts are excellent, his style is matter of fact. Kennedy lacks any sense of humor, everything is business. If you cross the line, he will take you down first and ask the questions later.

Wanda Nash was courted for a long time by "Long Beach" Mike Matthews.(LBM) Wanda never married Mike, and through the years became the victim of physical abuse. She found out through the grapevine that LBM had connections to the Cabots, so she stayed in his company until one day he's found dead. She sets her sights on Jim Holdaway.. Wanda's goal is to find the stones, one way or the other. Wanda really has no idea how close she really is to the truth.

Jim Holdaway does some footwork and finds the diamonds at Spivey's Spikes, the location Mr. Pink had left them at before his arrest and incarceration. Holdaway keeps the stones for himself and pads his bank account a few thousand dollars at a time as to not draw unwanted attention. But after 20 years Holdaway is getting tired of the wait, he has been patient up until now.. He is soon to make his move.

CPR Guy was once a promising Intern. He was over aggressive in the effort to save Vic Vega, a cop killer. It didn't help matters much when CPR Guy defibrillated Vega, the arc created by the electrical shock ignited the fumes in the ambulance, ultimately setting the dead Officer Marvin Nash on fire. CPR Guy was kicked out of the Fellowship program at Sister of Mercy Hospital in Hawthorne, CA. CPR Guy moonlights as a cab driver when he's not teaching CPR to Medical professionals or Foster Care agencies. (A Novella is in the works for this character.) CPR Guy is a segway for a few of the charaters in the the story and his adventures are just now ready to be told.

Officer Saul Opole and his wife Faye become victim to the short fused temper CPR Guy is known to have, but Officer Sauls demise is caused one night by RJ Nash. I an effort to save his sisters life, RJ has to resort to taking the first step. He kills both Long Beach Mike and Officer Saul. Later in the story RJ gets to exact his revenge on the man who sexually assaulted his little sister for years. Then the ultimate in vengence. Vic Vega, the man who kidnapped his father.

Endgame has RJ Nash with Vic Vega bound to a chair with duct tape. RJ cuts off Vega's ear and them sets him on fire. Along the way he cuts Seymore Scagnetti, the man who assaulted his sister, into various pieces in another room.

Seymore Scagnetti was Vic Vega's PO, and was also hot on the heels of Long Beach Mike. Seymore Scagnetti still frequenting the Opoles establishment, left him open to blackmail.. LBM gives Dino incriminating photos, now Scagnetti is known as Mr. Rust to the Cabot family. When Vega got out of jail, Scagnetti is his PO, the same goes for "Long Beach."

Long Beach Mike was also caught with stolen goods, at the same warehouse. "Long Beach" Mike sang and became an informant. Vic Vega kept his mouth shut, and went to jail. LBM has stayed under the radar, and has worked on the Cabot payroll until the night RJ interrupted his deal.

The Current Length of the Work (# of pages in screenplay format):

116 pages

Do you have any comments or questions that we can specifically answer?

Briefly describe your personal background and bio. (It helps to know a little more about you).

I have been a wandering soul for years, I still don't know what I want to do when I grow up.

In this life..

Born March 3, 1968 in Aurora, Colorado

EMT Basic-Medical Assistant Instructor-Courier-DJ-Inventor-Writer?

Spent my childhood in the East Bay in Union City, California.

I am number 11 of 13 children who got to call Frank Passarelli "dad" he passed away this May, he was my best friend.

Married to Freedom in 1998, I met her on my birthday in 1996. Freedoms Birthday is March 4th, the day after mine. We have 2 kids, Gracie (11) and Reuben(7).

I started two stories years before, this is my first attempt at anything literary. I don't even know if I did this right.. But I call it finished, for now.

Currently I work the night shift at Fed Ex Preloading boxes, my days are spent teaching CPR and First Aid to Foster & Adoptive Homes. I teach Medical Assisting a few days a week at a local tech college. I mobile DJ when I can.

I invented a line of hooks to help people get around. You can get a better idea if you go to Griphook.com. My inventions will be featured in over 4 million magazines in January of 2010. I was covered in a spot by Rick Lamb, host of the Horse Show on RFD TV. Denver Business Journal and a few smaller publications have covered the Griphook Company. I have 13 different hooks to date, each are hand crafted, no electricity is used. The first Griphook was made in my dad's garage in January of 2004.

I love passing the time doing Fantasy League Football -20th season.

My spare time is filled with chasing the kids around the house, aggrivating my beautiful wife and picking on a 6 string.

I'm A Raiderfan living in Bronco Country, I love football.

In my other life..

@

The first real job I worked was as Pizza Delivery Guy. I worked at Domino's Pizza before I graduated High School. 30 minutes or free was alot of fun. When I was 20 I started Mercury Messenger Service and worked as a courier for 21 years.

I started Jammin Out!! Mobile DJ Service on a bet in 1991, have been Jammin' ever since.

A sad fact though, is my past life wasn't so kind.. See some things in this life, you don't have to make up.

It's ok to laugh... seriously..

My ex wife ran off with her sister's husband.. Took my kids and had the same man who sexually assaulted my ex wife, assault my oldest daughter. He was a Sheriff's Deputy here in Colorado, I fought for 7 years to get custody of my babies, but a corrupt, back woods court kept me from them. I did all I could. I actually got a letter from the producers of "Judge Joe Brown". Nothing like a Jerry Springer life.

I've learned to move on.

My Infuences are obviously Quentin Tarantino. I dig Robert Rodriguez, and anything by the master Stephen King. I don't read books. The last book I read just for the sake of reading was in 1986, I'd rather write a book that read one. Music, I love Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, the Offspring, Mark Knopfler & Emmy Lou Harris. 70's Rock n Roll. I am a punk rocker at heart. As I type this to you, I have the mohawk to back it up. I put alot of the songs into the script that I like on a personal level. I love SUBLIME!

My wife and I have been together now for 13 years, Freedom is the strongest woman I have ever known. I met her at a country bar I was a bouncer at. I knew she loved me when she threw eggs at my truck, so I married her. She is a Girl Scout Troop Leader, my daughter is in her troop for 5 years now. She works as Director of a Pre School and is currently taking college classes. She's almost as busy as I am.

MS, SP or BOTH:

The Script’s Current Title – How catchy is it? How well does it convey the content?

The title works but mainly gets its shine from being the sequel to the much applaused 1992 hit. What I think would improve it somewhat would be a sub-title: Reservoir Dogs 2, Dog Day – or something similar. But overall the title doesn’t need changing.

The Script’s Current Loglines – How does it intrigue the reader? Is it written correctly?

Firstly, this is way too long for logline standards. Second, what you have here is not a logline, but a very condensed version of a synopsis. Bear in mind that the job of the logline is to hook and entice, not DESCRIBE the entire movie in a mired way. Keep it short and keep it simple. Anything over 1-3 lines is too much.

The Script’s Current Synopsis – How does it intrigue the reader? Is it written correctly?

A synopsis is the simple and linear retelling of your story with an emphasis on the plot points that drive it forward. Presently, you do not have a synopsis, but rather a string of teasing paragraphs describing character that it not linearly following the plot of the story. Which inexorably leads to a bogged down reading and ultimately a poor synopsis. I suggest you rewrite this.

How is the Script’s Current Plot? Does it work?

Plot-wise the story works. The three acts are present and do their jobs right. However, the major issue I have with plot is how much it tries to emulate the original Reservoir Dogs, or any of Tarantino’s movies for that matter.

There is a constant coming and going in this movie where no one knows anything enough, but they all know enough to know that, that is at best confusing for the audience. The non-linear approach is also another Tarantino feature that not anyone can master.

Still, ignoring the fact this is too much like Reservoir Dogs, the overall story and plot points work. Why you felt you had to write a sequel to an established movie (especially after 17 years) is beyond me. When you could have simply renamed your characters and give it another title and voila: you have your own story.

And this is what I strongly suggest you do: given the story and plot its points, you DO NOT need to make this a sequel, but rather a stand alone story. It’s good enough to stand on its own, it doesn’t need Reservoir Dogs to do that. Just change the title and the names of the characters and also take out elements that make it similar.

How is the Script’s Current Dialogue? Does it work?

There are two things to be said about your dialogue: 1) on its own it’s good and works; it’s smart and sarcastic and even funny at times; however 2) because your title is Reservoir Dogs 2 and because Tarantino is a dialogue master, you really can’t stand up to that.

So even though you can stand alone when it comes to dialogue, you just cannot pull a Tarantino (so to speak). But rest assured, neither could he back in the day. It takes a lot of practice, hard work and tons of rewriting to get to his (or anyone in Hollywood) level.

In conclusion: good dialogue on its own, but not so good when compared to its predecessor.

How is the Script’s Current Characters? Do they work?

Much like the title, the characters too get their shine from the 1992 movie. They are not original (since they are being re-used) and they have no new dimension (as characters appearing in a sequel should). In other words, without adding anything new to the characters, who were once decently complex, you end up serving us a dish of cold and one-dimensional characters that are overall linear and unappealing.

All the sons in the movie are reflections of their fathers, and they even act accordingly. Some names also sound a little off: Holdaway? This is the name of a character who takes some diamond and holds them away. Not just is this too on the nose, but it fringes of being insulting to the audience.

Never patronize your audience and never take their intelligence for granted, especially for this genre which is usually appealing to people with a higher level of intelligence.

That said, getting back to characters, they are the same old guys we’ve seen in 1992 with nothing much added but a lot of wrinkles and some dust on their suits.

Still, I have to give it to you: it’s not easy to re-use such characters and you manage to pull it off almost.

Script’s Budget Level and Appropriateness to Target Market/Demographics:

Budget level for such a production would be moderate and the movie would appeal to a Young Adults audience.

Comparative Conclusion and Recommended Improvements:

Well, the first piece of advice I can give to any writer is to not emulate anyone and try to pursue their own style. That said though, you do a pretty good job of Tarantino-esquing this story. However, Hollywood is not too fond when it comes to recycling good ideas. Remaking is one thing, but this is taking an established movie that can more or less be continued and, following the exact same recipe, trying to emulate its original success.

Also, you might want to consider that some of the characters you’re using have died in the original. Still, if you can somehow make that plausible, there is another issue: they’re old. They were roughly in their mid 30’s when the original hit the screens. And now, 20 years later (as you put it), they’re in their mid 50’s. Needless to say a bunch of 50 year olds running around and shooting left and right is not really action, it’s comedy.

Nitpicking: though the cutting off of the ear may be a tribute (more or less hidden), it is an exact copy of that scene and you might be considered a hack, not to mention that once you’ve been typecast a copy-cat in Hollywood, there only so much you can do to prove them wrong. So be careful with that scene.

Finally, though the story might work and the characters too (if stripped of their semblance to the original ones), Tarantino’s movie is almost made to not be continued. Had he desired to follow it up with a sequel, I’m sure he would have done it by now. For that reason I underline again: I strongly suggest you consider making this a stand alone project and not a sequel.

You have writing skill and a free imagination. There’s nothing stopping you in pursuing more original endeavors.

Good luck!
